United Nations Initiatives

AXA Group has joined the following United Nations Initiatives as part of its sustainability strategy and to address the effects of climate change:

  • Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI), signed by AXA and 29 other insurance companies in June 2012 at the Rio +20 Summit. The four PSI principles guarantee a common framework that brings together environmental, social, and corporate governance criteria in the insurance sector. AXA is one of the founding members (2006) and it also sits on the PSI Board (2013).

  • United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), signed by AXA IM (2007), AXA Private Equity (2008), AllianceBernstein (2011) and AXA Group (2012). This global initiative seeks to promote responsible investment bringing together environmental, social and corporate governance criteria in the decision-making process for investors and fund managers.

  • Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNIDRR). In 2013, AXA joined the platform's private sector advisory group. The aim of this initiative is to coordinate disaster reduction and ensure greater synergy in all actions aimed at disaster risk reduction, paying special attention to risk prevention.

  • The United Nations Global Compact, which AXA joined in 2002 and which seeks to ensure that signatory companies and organizations align their operations and strategies with the Ten universally accepted Principles in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment, and anti-corruption.

  • Caring for Climate: The Platform for Business Leaders is an initiative signed by the AXA Group in 2008. This is a voluntary platform for businesses that want to demonstrate their leadership in addressing climate change. It is backed by the United Nations Global Compact, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBSCD), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
