Prado Museum

AXA’s collaboration with the Museo del Prado began in 1998, making it the first private entity in Spain to become a benefactor of the Museum. Since then, the AXA Foundation has made numerous exhibitions possible, including “Velázquez’s Fables”, “Turner and the Masters”, “Late Raphael, “Goya in Madrid”, “Ingres”, “Fortuny”, "Velázquez, Rembrandt, Vermeer: Parallel Visions", "Uninvited Guests: Episodes on Women, Ideology and the Visual Arts in Spain (1833-1931)", "Return Journey. Art of the Americas in Spain", "Paret", "On the Reverse", "Hand in Hand. Sculpture and Colour in the Spanish Golden Age", and finally "Paolo Veronese (1528-1588)", on view since 27 May 2025.

Olga Sánchez Rodríguez, Chair of the AXA Foundaton and CEO of AXA Spain, joined the Plenary of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Prado Museum in 2019 as the representative of one of the Museum's benefactor institutions. In July 2024, she was reappointed as a member of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Museum. 

 

Touching the Prado

In addition, the AXA Foundation and the Prado Museum have joined forces to launch theTouching the Prado exhibition, the main objective of which being to make a number of the museum's representative art works accessible to people with visual impairments. In 2015, this exhibition was first shown at the Prado Museum before travelling to Mallorca, Girona, Donostia, Vigo, Valencia and Seville.

A new touring exhibition of  Touching the Prado was launched at the end of 2021 in Cáceres, moving on to Málaga, A Coruña, Zaragoza, Lérida and finally Salamanca at the end of 2022.

This is an inclusive project consisting of reproductions in relief of a selection of iconic works from the Prado Museum's collection, allowing people with visual impairments to explore the works through touch. Developed in collaboration with professionals with low vision, the initiative also includes additional supporting materials such as information panels and labels in Braille, as well as audio guides and vision impairment simulation glasses, making this sensory immersion accessible to all audiences.

The Prado Museum and the AXA Foundation present: "Paolo Veronese (1528-1588)"

Sponsored by the AXA Foundation, this exhibition represents the culmination of extensive research and a renewed study of the Prado Museum's outstanding collection of Venetian works, one of the most important in the world. Following previous exhibitions such as "Titian" (2003), "Tintoretto" (2007), and "Lorenzo Lotto: Portraits" (2018), the AXA Foundation sponsors for the first time this exceptional exhibition of the works of Paolo Veronese, bringing together more than 100 works from some of the best museums of the world, taking visitors on an unparalleled journey through the Venetian Renaissance.

Curated by Prado Museum director Miguel Falomir and Enrico María dal Pozzolo, professor at the Universitá degli Studio di Verona, the exhibition highlights the pictorial intelligence of a truly exceptional artist, capable of creating a distinctive formal universe; an artist with an artistic vision encompassing countless aesthetic and cultural references, which he expressed with remarkable formal and conceptual freedom. As with all great artists, Paolo Veronese transcended his time. The beauty and elegance of his compositions captivated collectors and artists for centuries, from Philip IV to Louis XIV, and from Rubens and Velázquez to Delacroix and Cézanne. 

During the exhibition's press event, AXA Foundation General Director Josep Alfonso highlighted that: "As experts point out, if there is no better place outside Venice than the Prado Museum to enjoy these Renaissance paintings, then the addition of works brought in from other collections further reinforces the significance of this exhibition within the European museum landscape.”

This exhibition is open to the public until 21 September 2025.
